There are a many reasons why conservation and re-use of fortified sites is important. Besides their historical importance and architectural assets, they present major opportunities of local restructuring and heritage support at a European level. National sites therefore need to establish European partnerships. Working with representatives from all European countries, EFFORTS wants to establish a permanent European network of fortified heritage sites, in order to support the set-up of international partnerships between cities and sites, experts, policy makers, enterprises and practitioners and join members in the development of fortification heritage.
